ARCHITECTURE REPRESENTING FUTURE & FREEDOM

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

A building designed for future is a composition of many elements within it: Sustainability, Flexibility, Creativity and Freedom.

The design process in architecture is usually divided in sub‐phases starting with the setting of the project requirements, followed by the generation and selection of the idea conception, and finally ending with the complete drawing of the design entity. The vision of Architecture should reflect a strong sense of space, community character and implement the vision of the client or architectural project. Any building at any given point of time, is designed for the Future, Future that itself is an amalgamation of many elements within it: Sustainability, Flexibility, Creativity and Freedom. The present times depict crumbling environment and natural resources, a sense of insecurity created though sedentary lifestyle and raging distinction between the poor and the rich. Architecture has the ability, and therefore the responsibility, to create an ambience for the future that provides a sense of security to people and help grow their intellectual ability and creativity for the betterment of society in general. And of course, responsible Architecture should embrace sustainability in terms of Design, Material, Cost, Time of construction and Flexibility.

To be creative, one has to visualize options alternative to the present that which is immediately foreseen, and this act of imagination is based on the distinction between what is expected and what is possible. Architectural spaces should help its occupants grow their creativity. Office buildings strive for creativity to improve worker productivity, schools strive for creativity to improve student learning, and even homes strive for creativity to improve relationships and to increase positivity within day to day life. Creativity within architectural design promotes experience that fulfills, pushes to bring about new ideas, and creates an environment within which the occupants are motivated towards striving for intellectual freedom, in terms of freedom of thoughts, expression and creativity. Hence, Architecture for Future should be an embodiment of all of these factors – it should be able to create Sustainability, Neighborhood Identity, Security, (intellectual) Freedom, Creativity in order to be Responsible. Few examples that have been included here, represent one or more of these qualities. And that is what, in my opinion, makes these buildings Timeless.
